Spotted gum is the common name for four species which are Corymbia Citriodora, Corymbia Citriodora Variegate, Corymbia Henryi, and Corymbia Maculata that grow along the east coast of Australia. Forests are dotted from northeast Victoria to the northern tablelands of Queensland, with some occurrence in western areas of southern Queensland.
It is a premium Australian hardwood with a striking appearance and a high degree of natural durability and strength. The heartwood ranges from light brown through definite browns to deep red-brown hues. Sapwood is white to light brown in colour and can be up to 50mm wide. The texture is moderately coarse and grain is variable with some timbers having the additional feature of a wavy grain. It is slightly greasy nature and gum vein is common.
Application & Attributes
Spotted gum is suitable for both Interior & Exterior Use. It readily accepts paint, stains, and polish. It is less prone to bleed-through of tannins than other species. As with all exterior timbers Spotted Gum will need to be finished with a good quality exterior finish to protect from drying and cracking over time.
